Kirkleatham Woods and Hall Access Improvement Project

Lying three miles south of Redcar, Kirkleatham is one of Cleveland’s architectural gems. The grounds are home to a genuinely inspiring collection of classical and domestic buildings of considerable quality that form the Kirkleatham Hall Estate.
The surrounding strip of woodland known as Washaways Plantation is managed by the Countryuside Section. It lies between West Dyke Road and Plantation Road in Redcar and is part of the wider Eate. It connects to a large area of open space and is well used by families and dog walkers. The woodland potentially offers a range of recreaton and education opportunities. This project proposes to maximise and enhance these opportunities by constructing new pathways, cycleways within the woodland and proving new pedestrian entranceways into the site. The site is within walking distance of some 20,000 residents and visited by several schools for environmental education trips.
