Knotweed Control Programme (7 acres)

Following a very successful three years of treatment of Japanese Knotweed on the 7 Acres County Park LNR site, funding has now run out. The Knotweed is being controlled in the areas that Officers can safely treat but we need to employ the contractor to return to the site for a further two years of treatment. The funding would pay for a contractor to complete a further two years of control on the site and on a smaller site a little further north of the LNR, significantly reducing the chance of LNR becoming reinfested. This will then enhance and encourage priority habitats within the site, aiding the management work already being carried out. A small site further upstream of the Nature Reserve will also be treated. This is the only source of Japenese Knotweed contributing to the Reserve and if, eradicated from both sites will also have a beneficial impact further downstream. As part of the programme an information leaflet will be produced and education will be carried out within the Bolton area.
