Knowsley Expressway ‘Woodland Restoration Project’

Knowsley Expressway Woodlands form a 24 ha stretch of lowland broadleaf woodland adjoining the 3 mile (5km) A5300 (plus 1 mile of A562), linking Huyton with Halewood. It is a major green infrastructure asset, contributing to the local Ecological Framework. Arboricultural survey work devised a woodland management plan that identified a significant need for thinning works to bring the woodland into positive management following its original planting in 1995/96.We propose to deliver thinning works across the woodland to restore the habitat’s sustainability & biodiversity value, thus contributing positively towards BAP targets and its role as a major wildlife corridor. The works would bring the woodland into active management that would be within the capacity of our own maintenance resources.
