Land and Environmental Renewal Works at Westside Showground

The main aim of the project is to undertake a range of small land and environmental improvments at the Barvas Showground which will seek to complement and build upon the existing site infrastructure and visual amenity of the area. Previous projects at the site comprise the construction of a community playing field (Phase 1), the refurbishment of the community centre, new multi-purpose community facilties and new changing facilities (Phase 2), This new project is seen as the third and final phase of work which has spanned eight years, and will comprise improved access infrastructure, stock proofing, tree/shrub planting, composting compound, shelter facilities, and improved drainage. The LA as recently commenced building a new school at the neighbouring site and the external landscaping will be finished to a high standard. A further aim of this project is to complement this work by improving the overall visual amentity of the community owed site which is a ‘gateway’ to the west coast of the island.
