Projects / Langford Parish hall Ceiling Replacement

Langford Parish hall Ceiling Replacement

The project will remove all the asbestos in the ceiling and roof of the hall, add insulation (currently none), replace the ceiling with plasterboard, finish and paint, treat all roofing timbers, add new roofing membrane, retile the roof with existing slates as far as possible and with new slate to replace any unusable ones, tidy up soffits, facias, etc. as required, and dispose of waste materials appropriately.
The trustees have long been aware of the poor state of the roof because of the frequent need for repairs. Decorators have refused to repaint the ceiling of the main hall because of the presence of asbestos. Heating costs are high because of the absence of any insulation in the main roof.
The trustees have recently had a Carbon and Energy assessment survey carried out by Dr Nina Alphey of Oxford Brooks University. Replacement and insulation of the roof was a major recommendation, as it was in a further survey conducted by Mr Richard Green. The presence of asbestos was confirmed by specialist contractor Breeze. (reports attached)
It is anticipated that there will be a reduction in consumption of heating oil and reduced maintenance costs, which will be monitored.
The primary benefit will be to users, and we will monitor this through the number of hall bookings received.
If we are unable to carry out this project we expect bookings will fall away as the condition of the building deteriorates
