Last of the Meres

The project will improve physical and intellectual access for visitors to the northern area of the Great Fen through the creation of a circular footpath / cycle route and multisensory area. The Last of the Meres route will link new and established habitats and include viewing points, a bird hide, interpretation, artworks, opportunities for those with limited mobility and intellectual and / or sensory impairment, and potential benefits for urban Peterborough communities through a possible link to the Peterborough Green Wheel. The project differs from comparable local amenities because of its dual cyclist-walker facility and features along the route. A smaller-scale track around the Great Fen’s New Decoy Farm has similar features but no artworks, while most other local routes only have interpretation at the beginning. The trail will eventually incorporate a Visitor Centre.
