Laurie Lee Way – A Landscape Celebration

The project will use the centenary of Laurie Lee’s birth in 2014 to celebrate the connection between the work of Gloucestershire’s most famous twentieth century writer and the landscape of the Slad Valley that inspired him.

The project will focus on the installation of 10-15 ‘poetry posts’ throughout the Slad Valley inscribed with key works by Laurie Lee.The posts will focus on works inspired by Slad and its wildlife, including poems and extracts from his iconic portrait of the Gloucestershire countryside, ‘Cider with Rosie’.

The project will also refresh Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust’s ‘Slad Valley Wildlife Way’ to mark the centenary and enhance interpretation in the valley. Refreshing the walk literature will allow us to link the literary and cultural heritage of the valley to its wildlife interest, widening the appeal of the walk and encouraging all visitors to the area to enjoy its wildlife. The project will bring a new, largely urban audience to GWT’s Slad Valley reserves.
