Learning through play content and story tree

The Children’s Discovery Centre (CDC) is a hands-on creative story museum in Stratford, London. Opened in 2003 the attraction shares the human heritage of stories and storytelling through two ‘Story Worlds’ (story-themed play spaces that enable kinaesthetic learning) and the site offers users a Story Garden, an immersive book-come-to-life exhibition, early years storytelling space, cafe, reception/bookshop, and two linked event rooms.

The organisation is currently working to improve the fabric of the building following consultation workshops with the local community and children’s forum. Funding has been secured to allow CDC to cover over an existing atrium at the centre of the four-storey building transforming the space into a multi-level exhibit, the Amazing Accessible Story Tree. The exhibit will have fully accessible play equipment, portholes, walkways and climbing nets to take visitors across each area of the building to other exhibits across the site.

Biffa Award has been approached to fund 50 per cent of the cost of the story tree structure and interpretation.
