Ligoniel Environment and heritage project

Ligoniel Improvement Association (LIA) has continued to develop the site at Ligoniel dam for public benefit since purchasing the area from a local developer in 2008. Presently, LIA are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of this large, public amenity. This involves regular inspecting of the site for fly tipping, litter and to ensure the waterways are flowing and operating correctly. Pathways must be kept clear of overgrowing trees and grass must be strimmed and cut regularly throughout the year in order to make the site safe and secure for visitors. The maintenance responsibility will increase further as the reservoir bill is soon to be introduced, enforcing regular inspections and completion of any necessary, associated works. All tools and equipment needed must be bought, hired and maintained by ourselves, which has a significant expense associated with it. This project aims to buy vital maintenance equipment to keep the area safe and secure and protect the habitats on site in an appropriate manner.
