Lincoln Street wetland

This project will see the creation of a new area of wetland with associated reed beds, tree planting and wildflower meadow on Lincoln Street Park in Basford. Polluted surface water runoff generated in the nearby housing estate flows, via an outfall, directly into the River Leen which runs through the Lincoln Street Park. Chemicals and pollutants entering the water course directly have a detrimental effect to the health and biodiversity of the river. Changing the profile of the river bank to create an area of wetland and reed beds into which the outlet will flow, will have the effect of slowing down the flow of water and filtering out the pollutants before it enters the water course so contributing to the improved Water Framework Directive status of the water body. Recent surveys confirmed water vole presence on the eastern bank of the River Leen, the proposed improvements to the western bank will aim to increase potential habitat to encourage further colonisation.
