Little Doward – Improving Access in the Wye Valley

Little Doward is a prominent local landscape feature of immense character. Much of the site is designated an SSSI, incorporating a wide range of woodland habitat types and a rich history including a large Bronze Age Hillfort (Scheduled Ancient Monument). Working in partnership with organisations and individuals in the Wye Valley, the project embraces a number of smaller linked projects designed to aid sustainable management through improving and promoting enjoyment, understanding, accessibility, involvement, conservation and management. The Trust would like to improve access at Little Doward. Many people, both locally and from further afield, access the site on its many paths but primarily on a wide track which leads to the hillfort. Over the coming months, the Trust will be restoring the coniferised areas, greatly enhancing the site for both wildlife and people. Heavy machinery will be required to remove non-native conifers and the existing track is unsuitable for such work.
