Littleton Meadows: Restoration of Hedges

Rejuvenation and management of two mature and declining hedges and their linked features on Littleton Meadows. Hedges are a key habitat and resource for many wildlife species, including birds and important invertebrate pollinators, providing food, shelter, transit corridors, and breeding sites.
The first hedge runs along a roadside and is dominated by dead Elm trees which are overshadowing and overcrowding other species, preventing effective management of the hedge and reducing its value for wildlife. Removing the dead trees, and replacing them with disease resistant varieties will allow this important feature to be retained and enhanced.
The second hedge runs across the middle of the site along the line of an old ditch. This Project will help with the restoration of this hedge, allowing it to be laid in the future.
