Loch Leven Floodplain Grazing Marsh Restoration Project

Specialist machinery (‘softrack’) will be used to cut back rank rush vegetation which, if left unchecked, would dominate the UKBAP Floodplain Grazing Marsh habitat on the reserve. It is important to manage this habitat to avoid the decline in suitable habitat for breeding waders, including lapwing – a UKBAP priority species – who will only breed in wide open spaces. Softrack is able reach areas that are too wet for grazing cattle.
