Looe Seagrass Project

The Looe Seagrass project aims to ensure the conservation of Seagrass BAP habitat off the south coast of Cornwall at Looe through surveys and awareness raising.

Project objectives are:

1. Working with local community volunteers, carry out a condition and extent survey of seagrass habitat in the shallow seas off Looe resulting in the production of an extent map of this important BAP habitat.
2. Raise awareness amongst the local community (tourist boat operators, fishermen, yachtsmen) and visitors of the presence and importance of seagrass habitat and the actions that can be taken to protect and enhance the habitat. Raise awareness through the production of an information board about the environment of the Looe Voluntary Marine Conservation Area (VMCA), the production of a short film showcasing community volunteer seagrass survey work and the production of a postcard highlighting the location of the seagrass beds at Looe.
