Loughborough Farm Anaerobic Digester

The Loughborough Farm is a community food growing project in Loughborough Junction in south London. The Farm has strong volunteer support across our diverse community. We grow food naturally, without the use of artificial fertilisers or pesticides, for our volunteers, The Platform Cafe, our community cafe, and the wider community. We have active compost heaps and a team of volunteers who enthusiastically maintain them.
We plan to build an anaerobic digester which will provide electricity for a nearby building, power for mushroom growing, and digestate to use as fertiliser at the Farm. The digester will reduce the carbon footprint of the Farm and the nearby building and enhance the local circular economy, recycling waste from nearby breweries operating the the local railway arches, a feature of the local area and provide fertiliser.
The Loughborough Farm will become a composting exemplar. This will be one of only two anaerobic digesters in central London and will be used as a training tool for schools.
