Low Burn Hall

The Woodland Trust purchased 68 hectares of land in March 2008, known as Low Burn Hall. We aim to plant 80,000 native trees to create areas of new native woodland. We will also reduce intensive agriculture on the pasture to begin to restore the grassland and, through long term natural regeneration and low intensity grazing, create areas of wood-pasture adjacent to the River Wear. In addition we will create a wildflower meadow using innovative techniques developed through our Forest of Flowers project. We will also actively involve local people in the project and improve access to the site.
