Lower Lee Otter Project

Otters were once common in the Lee Valley but as a direct result of aquatic pollution, hunting and the loss of suitable natural areas in which to travel, feed and breed they became locally extinct in 1970. This project aims to support the full reintroduction of otters into the Lower Lee Valley (North East and East London). The project will involve the implementation of a range of habitat improvements that have been identified as necessary in the Lee Valley Otter Species Action Plan. These improvements include enhancements to potential otter feeding and breeding sites and access improvements along the key migration routes in order to ensure safe movement through the valley
