Lower Test Nature Reserve Bird Hide

The project will support the removal of a an existing delapidated 25 year old wooden bird hide (using youth volunteer labour)and fund the purchase and installation costs for a new specially designed bird hide on the Lower Test Nature Reserve. It will be professionally designed and constructed with a steel frame and a wooden cladding exterior. It will be fitted with a disabled viewing bay to provide access for wheelchairs, as well as a securely locking door and window slats to prevent vandalism. The new hide will be within close proximity to the residents of Totton and within a mile of Forest Edge special needs school. Sited overlooking a shallow mere attracting a variety of summer breeding birds and overwintering waders. The new hide will provide a comfortable shelter from the elements, and should attract new interest groups and schools as well as the regular visitors.
