Lowland Meadow Recreation, Conservation & Sward Enhancement

The aim of this project is to restore, conserve and enhance significant areas of linked grassland habitat, including species-rich lowland meadows through traditional methods such as haycutting and aftermath grazing at a County Wildlife Site. Lowland meadows are a priority BAP habitat, having declined nationally by 97% in the past 50 years. There are 6.12 ha of traditional species-rich meadows at the farm. The Trust aims to maintain these lowland meadows, while recreating up to 1.75 ha of meadow and developing sward enhancement over an area up to 6.65 ha. 1268 metres of new fence installation will create new grazing areas and maintenance of existing fencing as part of the meadow boundary management will enable ongoing cattle grazing which is an important part of successful meadow management.
