Projects / Lucy Brook Restoration Project

Lucy Brook Restoration Project

The project is to further improve the biodiversity of the area around Lucy Brook, currently constrained in a narrow, straightened channel, by creating 1.2ha of fen, pond and running water habitat adjacent to its existing course. The area will be a mix of semi-enriched fen, tall reed and bullrush, scattered wetland scrub and a range of both open, shaded and semi- shaded watercourses and ponds This will be achieved by excavating new channels fed from the Lucy Brook, installing leaky wooden dams in the brook to direct water into the channels, creating dams using untreated timber, bundled logs, brash bales etc and excavating 2 in-stream ponds, each with a spillway to direct water back to the brook.
