Lune Aqueduct Habitat Enhancement Project

This project will create a public space for the community of Lancaster and visitors from outside of the area to visit to enjoy. The site will include a 400 metre circular path through a haven of ponds, trees and wildlife, created in conjunction with local volunteers and Central High School pupils.

The proposed site is adjacent to the Grade I listed Lune Aqueduct, a magnificent structure that is a visitor attraction in itself. The Canal & River Trust has recently completed a major restoration of the aqueduct, making it more accessible to the public. The site of this project is a large area owned by the Canal & River Trust that offers huge potential as a community space.

We aim to transform the site from an old dredging pit presently made up simply of earth, into a large recreational area, used by people of all ages to exercise, appreciate the scenery and learn about the historical and natural qualities for the area.
