Macaulay Institute: Pond Restoration

Originally designed as an ornamental pond, it has gained biodiversity value over the years. However recently it has become choked with silt and its value for wildlife has diminished.
The project will remove silt from a pond (100m x 30m), re-formation of footways around the pond, improvement of plant, tree and shrub cover around the pond and creation of an island for nesting birds.
A survey of the pond was carried out by scientists from the Macaulay Institute and recommendations made. The area is adjacent to a nursery School that use the area on a daily basis.
The LBAP Officer is involved in the project and a letter of support will be sent at a later date.
