Maerdy Gateway Memorial

To provide a memorial in memory of those who were killed in explosions and accidents, men, boys, women, girls (6 and 12 years of age), families who lost their livelihoods and those who otherwise suffered in the South Wales Coalfield from the 1800s to the present day and also an interpretation area to the former Maerdy colliery, its workers and the community it served and helped create. To create an understanding of the past industrialisation and to create a wild flower meadow to show and create a link from the past scaring and industrialisation of the area to a more greener environmentally aware and friendlier future.
