Maintenance and restoration of Lower Woods Nature Reserve

To restore and maintain a rejuvenated coppice-with-standards habitat across the woodland. Individual woodland compartments and their ancient woodbanks will be maintained and separated by a restored network of wide grassy rides and “trenches”. We aim to create a mosaic of woodland types in close proximity to one another: high forest areas, woodland open space, young and mature coppice. Through coppicing, felling, deer fencing and deer management we aim to help rejuvenate the woodland ecosystem, encourage natural regeneration and perpetuate the intricate mixture of woodland and grassland as a habitat for wildlife.
