Making a B-Line: Restoring Richmond’s lost meadows

The ‘Restoring Richmond’s Lost Meadows’ Project is part of the national B-Lines Initiative, which aims to address the loss of wildflower-rich grasslands and the pollinators they support. B-Lines are wide strips of permanent wildflower-rich grasslands, which link existing wildlife areas to create a network of habitats that will weave across the British countryside. This will provide large areas of restored/new habitat which will benefit a whole range of wildlife, including bumblebees, butterflies and moths. This Project will help establish one of Yorkshire’s B-Lines; in particular restoring/creating a core block of wildflower-rich grasslsands which will help provide an ecological link to the internationally important hay meadows of upper Swaledale.
