Market Yard Conservation Works

The Project will carry out the conservation of Grade II listed perimeter walls and gate lodge of Coleraine’s historic Market Yard, to agreed standard that meets NIEA Listed Building consent granted 2010. The work involves restoration of
12 foot high basalt walls surrounding the 0.3 hectare site
fine sandstone gatelodge and 3 other sandstone and ironwork gateways
remaining section of original historic market structure
historic fittings within the site including plaques and equipment
Built in 1829,the Market Yard was once a thriving commercial hub that provided pedestrain routes through the town and brought people together. The Market ceased in the early 1980s and since 2002 the site has been completely closed off to public use due to derelict state. Completion of the conservation works will enable public use of the space for community festivals, markets, events and exhibitions
