Marsh Fritillary Grassland Project at Strawberry Banks

Strawberry Banks is a 5.1ha unimproved limestone grassland Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) that lies in a secluded valley to the east of Stroud. Strawberry Banks is the only location for the marsh fritillary butterfly in Gloucestershire. The project aims to maintain and increase the population and available habitat of this rare butterfly by grazing with cattle and controlling encroaching scrub. This management will also benefit the wide range of flora that is only found on limestone grassland as well as other interesting fauna.
