Matthews Folly Viewing Area

The Southern Upland Way, a long distance coast to coast footpath, passes through the town of Sanquhar and the local viewpoint Matthews Folly. At this prominent landmark there is a cairn and flag pole where the Royal Burgh standard is raised during the Burgh festival/ The aim of the project is to enhance the viewpoint by building a stone wall incorporating interpretation which will raise awareness of Sanquhar’s local heritage and adding seating so that visitors can rest and appreciate the views.
