Medieval Garden in Northumberland Park, North Shields

We will work in partnership with the New Friends of Northumberland Park (TNFoNP) to create a medieval garden in Northumberland Park, (created in 1885), using the plans the group has developed through their research. The group worked with professional archaeologists during June/July 2011 to develop and deliver a very successful Community Archaeology Project within the park, looking for remains/artefacts related to St Leonard’s hospital, dating from 13th Century, which was known to have been on the site of the park. Over 30 volunteers decided to work towards re-creating a medieval garden which would have been an integral part of the hospital.
