Megargy Grey Partridge Project

Up to 50 years ago grey partridge were common through most of South Derry and this was especially true of Megagry but with the loss of the mixed farm model, the onset of intensive farming and the loss of habitat they have all but disappeared in Ireland as a whole. MDGCS want to reintroduce grey partridge to the area by providing suitable habitat in the form of cover crops and by rearing grey partridge for release under bantams to stimulate as close to natural conditions as possible.

The funds requested will allow Megargy & District Game & Conservation Society (MDGCS) to purchase the materials and equipment to kick start the rearing programme which will allow them to reintroduce this native red listed species to the local area while also allowing them to plant cover and feed crops which will act as a natural habitat for the grey partridge (and other wildlife) in the absence of the old mixed farm model.
