Projects / Megargy Old Dublin Road

Megargy Old Dublin Road

The Old Dublin Road has been in existence since the 16th Century and has significant local and national historical importance as there is evidence of troops being garrisoned there and using the road as a main thorough fare during the siege of Derry. Magherafelt District Council recently recognised the significant local importance of the Old Road as they designated it a public right of way. MDGCS would like to restore and reopen a 800 metre section of the road to locals and tourists alike by resurfacing it and replacing the current concrete gate posts and galvanised gates with traditional stone gateposts and black iron gates. Interpretation signs would be erected to inform walkers using the road of its significant historical importance.
