Melksham Church – Building to Serve

This ‘Building To Serve’ project will convert and refurbish the ground floor of a derelict grade II listed building in Melksham town centre into a suite of attractive and flexible meeting spaces to be rented out affordably to local charities & community groups.

The current Church Room is cramped and deteriorating. It badly needs refurbishment and can’t accommodate the needs of a growing population. Toddler, retirement, and bereavement support groups are already having to turn people away from joining due to lack of space. There is no hub where church staff can meet members of the congregation to discuss funerals, marriages, baptisms and other life events or crises. The Rector has met with partnering charities whose work meets the requirements of the Strategic Needs Assessment for Melksham and found they need quiet, private, home-like spaces to meet clients. There are no spaces like this currently in Melksham. People living close to the building want it refurbished as in its current state it is a magnet for anti-social behaviour, drug abuse, and vandalism as well as being an eyesore in the most historic part of Melksham town centre.
