Mereshead Development

Mereshead is an internationally important nature reserve on the Solway coast, owned and managed by the RSPB. The project will improve visitor facilities through upgrading and new works, such as interpretation boards and education materials. Some 75% of the funds are for biodiversity improvements to increase the wildlife value and in turn enhance the visitor experience. The work will: encourage use by wintering Svalbard Barnacle Geese; develop habitat for breeding wet grassland birds; establish Reed Warbler and Marsh Harrier as breeding birds; and, establish a population of Natterjack Toads. The project fits within a larger Heritage Lottery funded Landscape project.
