Middle Level Otter Recovery

The project aims to re-establish otter as a widespread species on the Middle Level waterways. Recent survey work has demonstrated that otter are present at the fringes of the Middle Level waterways but are absent from the centre.

The project seeks to address this problem by creating a network of 31 otter holts and 15 areas of improved bankside habitat. The project will also include work to bridge ledges to improve connectivity, a programme of monitoring and sevreal might partrols to reduce illegal eel netting (which has been proven to have a negative impact on otter populations)The project addresses national and regional species action plan targets for otter
