Middle Level Water Vole Support

The project aim is to re-establish Water Voles as widespread species on all Middle level waterways and to expand their populations within adjacent Internal drainage board ditch systems. This will be achieved by setting up a scheme to control predatory American mink and by river margin habitat improvements specificaly designed to benefit water voles. A three year catchement-wide mink control scheme will be organised involving riparian landowners and other interested parties. Selected areas of bank will be improved for water voles by the installation of pre-vegetated coir rolls to provide suitable habitat where it is lacking.
