Midgley Matters: Back to the Future

This concerns the Community Room / Shop in a 'vital village' high on the Pennines and the tireless efforts to secure its future. In 2001 the local shop and PO in Midgley closed, starving the village of amenities. A Community Forum was established and leased the corner of a barn as a non-profit replacement ( a successful shop, post office and commuity room) staffed by volunteers. After about 5 years the owner gave notice, plus the Post Office closed their counter; but an extraordinary opportunity arose when the landmark former Co-Op, in the village centre, became available. Restoring the Co-Op akin to its origins is hugely emotive. Midgley Matters Association seeks funding to re-open the sole amenity at the heart of the community.
