Milkwellburn Wood

To purchase the freehold of a 80 ha woodland comprising of areas of Ancient Semi-Natural Woodland (ASNW), Plantation on Ancient Woodland Site (PAWS) and conifer plantation. Intotal 47.5 ha of the site is listed on the National Ancient Woodland Inventory, of which 38.5ha is classified as PAWS and 9ha as ASNW (relic areas of the original ancient woodland). The DWT strategy for future management is to systematically fell the conifers over a period of 25-30 years to allow native broad leaf species to naturally regenerate, or be planted, so that an 80ha broadleaved woodland is created, 47.5ha of which will be ASNW and 32.5ha Lowland Broadleaved Woodland.
