Mill Bank Meadows habitat enhancements

The Mill Bank Meadows site was purchased on VLHT’s LCF-funded Project 74 and offers a fantastic opportunity to create new and enhance existing habitats to increase the biodiversity of the site. The main part of this project is to ensure secure fencing to allow conservation grazing at appropriate times of year. Old fences will be removed to reduce hazards to wildlife and new fences and gates will be installed. The fencing will allow areas of wet woodland/scrub to develop and ditch work and scrapes will further increase habitat diversity, which will complement the grassland habitats. The grassland will benefit from transfer of green hay (a seed source) from the adjacent LCF- funded asset Mikes Meadow, and improving access between the sites will make management operations far more efficient.
Native trees including Black Poplars will be planted to further increase habitat available for wildlife on site.
