Mill Meadow Changing Facility, Aston Ingham Cricket Club (AICC), Glos

Aston Ingham Cricket Club (AICC) has recently transformed a previously unused and overgrown field into a second cricket pitch, Mill Meadow, creating a valuable community space. The club has established a ladies’ cricket team, which continues to grow, and has recently introduced a mixed-aged (13+) ladies’ hardball team and an U11 girls’ hardball team. This initiative aims to retain young girls who may find playing alongside teenage boys intimidating. Additionally, junior cricket at the club is thriving, with active U9, U11, U13, and U15 teams.

Currently, Mill Meadow lacks proper facilities, with only a single portable toilet available. This funding application seeks to construct a much-needed changing facility, providing dedicated changing rooms, toilets, and sanitary provision, particularly for female players. The facility will also include a small kitchenette for refreshments and outdoor seating for families, spectators, and walkers who use the public footpath crossing Mill Meadow.

AICC is a vibrant, non-profit community sports and social club, welcoming players, spectators, and local residents from surrounding rural villages. The development of Mill Meadow has not only expanded opportunities for women’s and junior cricket but has also enhanced the area’s social and recreational value. The proposed changing facility will significantly improve the experience for members, supporters, and visitors.

The club hosts cricket matches and training sessions primarily between February and September, with public access to Mill Meadow available during this period, weather permitting. The improved facilities will support the expansion of ECB-backed All Stars and Dynamos programmes for 5–11-year-olds and increase the number of women’s matches held at the venue. The absence of sanitary provisions currently limits the type of events that can be staged on Mill Meadow.
