Mixenden Community Sports Hub For All

Mixenden is a village of mainly social housing on the outskirts of Halifax with a bad reputation nationally due to social problems and unemployment. Isolated high in the hills 3 miles northwest of Halifax and not being linked up to other neighbourhoods, it is tarnished throughout Calderdale as an area of high multiple deprivation (top 2.5% nationally). The school is the key hub in the community (the rest of the village centre is dilapidated) but the playing fields are waterlogged and not used due to poor drainage and conflicting open access by dog walkers and motorbikes. A programme of improvements will better equip the site for use by sporting enthusiasts, by the local community more generally and enable the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
