Moelyci Organic Horticulture Biodiversity Project

The project involves habitat creation, restoration and management for wildlife at the Centre. The targets are bird and mammal species of arable land, arable margins and hedgerows.

Limiting factors for the target species are:-
• winter seed crops,
• summer weed seeds,
• invertebrates
• dense hedgerows for nesting and foraging
• berries and small-seeded fruit

To address these factors the project will :-
• Establish arable seed ‘crop’ for winter bird feeding
• Establish new hedgerows of locally native species
• Restore sections of hedgerow which have been ‘grazed-out’, based on surviving species mix
• Establish an area of summer soft fruit
• Establish wildlife pond to provide drinking/bathing habitat and increase invertebrate biodiversity.
