Projects / Moor Piece Peat Bog Restoration Project

Moor Piece Peat Bog Restoration Project

To restore an area of blanket bog by blocking artificial ditches using dams made from Birch stems that will be felled as part of management works in adjoining woodland. Restoration works will re-wet the bog so that sphagnum moss and other peat bog plants can regenerate and form peat that will capture / sequester carbon dioxide and contribute towards climate change mitigation. Works will be carried out over 3 years by volunteers under the supervision and direction of a part – time project officer. The project will serve as an example of and demonstrate best practice via a nature trail leaflet and series of guided walks.
