Moorcroft Wood Local Nature Reserve

Moorcroft Wood was planted around a lake on the site of a former colliery to provide an amenity for patients in a (now closed) hospital. It was one of the first examples of urban forestry consciously being used to bring a post-industrial site into beneficial community use. The site is now an LNR and with the local Friends group we will improve footpaths and extend access for disabled visitors. Colourful and informative interpretation will be provided and the access points improved to welcome more visitors.
