Morden Hall Park – Water Voles

The project will enhance the ecological function of the riverside habitat for water voles and other wildlife.
This is part of a wider river restoration programme aiming to prepare the River Wandle for water vole reintroduction, a species of principal concern for nature conservation in the UK and London region.
Habitat enhancement work will establish healthy marginal vegetation using coir rolls and pallets, create bank bays for spontaneous plant colonisation, reduce riverside shade, provide a measurable comparison for three different habitat improvement techniques for future projects along the river, and ensure the American mink does not establish itself along the watercourse and those adjoining.
