Moss Valley NFM

Moss Valley Woodlands nature reserve covers 26.3 hectares of Semi-natural Ancient Woodland, scrub and grassland on the southern fringes of Sheffield within the steep-sided valley of the River Moss. In times of heavy rain, the normally placid River Moss can become a torrent, eroding the banks, damaging paths and crossings. We would like to carry out some Natural Flood Management in the Moss Valley, constructing ‘leaky dams’, which hold back water and release it gradually into the river system, installing flood attenuation ponds and ditch.
