Moston Bat Conservation Project

Moston Bat Conservation Project will work with volunteers to improve habitats at Moston Brook for Bats.

Moston Brook is a 70 ha site in North Manchester with a wide range of habitats (part designated as a LNR and a Grade A Site of Biological Interest)

Bat surveys by Greater Manchester Ecology Unit identified presence but no robust monitoring activity has been undertaken to identify species type, population and distribution. Our project will support volunteers to address this need through bat species surveys.

Volunteers will undertake practical conservation tasks as guided by bat survey data to improve the site for bats. Tasks will include:

– increase species and structural diversity of woodlands,
– manage grasslands for invertebrates,
– increase the species diversity of marsh, fen and wetland habitats,
– improve the Moston Brook habitat.

As well as benefiting bats this practical work will deliver of a wide range of UK and Greater Manchester Biodiversity Action Plans.
