MUGA and Associated Works

This is a project to install a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) with associated works at Sling Playing Fields.

The Association provides play facilities in the village of Sling, Gloucestershire. There is an urgent need to upgrade the Play Park and include a ball area for the children as there is no such facility within the village. The installation of the MUGA will allow for this. There is an area of fast-growing bamboo that needs to be eradicated so the intention is to use this opportunity to remove it and install the MUGA. Several pieces of equipment will require moving at the same time. This year’s ROSPA report shows that some maintenance on the current equipment is required; this would be incorporated at the same time. The Association has provided this facility for almost 40 years and continually fund raises to replace equipment and maintain the existing equipment. A grant would enable the addition of the MUGA and refurbish and upgrade the existing kit.

The addition of a MUGA for ball games would be a massive advantage to the village and schools. It will provide a safe environment for ball games within a secure play area, allowing ball games to be controlled within the park. Currently there is no proper provision for ball games. The children use plastic moveable goal posts (see photographs). However, it means the ball can be kicked towards any of the equipment where other children (particularly toddlers) are playing. The MUGA will have a fence to protect the other areas of the park. The grass is completely ruined wherever they move the goal posts. The children also play on the streets and pavements which is not only dangerous but a nuisance to residents. This facility is already well used by all age groups in the village and surrounding area. There are new areas around the play park where housing is being built with many new families.
