Muiravonside Woodland Habitat Enhancement Project

The project focusses on the removal of the Species “Rhododendron Ponticum”, which is a rapidly spreading, indigenous plant that kills all ground cover plants and damages biodiversity in British woodlands.
The method will be for the Mature growth to be cut back and burned over the winter months of 2008/2009.

Because the roots regenerate quickly, the new growth must be sprayed over a two year period, to ensure the plants do not simply return.

The project will utilise the combined efforts of BTCV professionals and volunteers to effect the eradication of large stands of this species in Muiravonside forest.
