Museum Of East Anglian Life – Abbotts Hall Project

The Museum of East Anglian Life was formed on its present site, a former medieval manor, in 1967, when the then owners placed 70 acres of farmland in trust for the formation of the museum. The Museum has recently acquired on a 125 year lease the adjoining Queen Anne style Abbott’s Hall. The project will restore the Hall built in 1709, its adjoining stables, a pair of derelict 18th century workers cottages and the walled garden.

The walled garden part of the project will be funded using the LCF funds provided by Suffolk Environmental Trust. It will be both museum exhibit and working garden and will be the centre-piece of the Museums social enterprise which is based on the skills development of disadvantaged people such as adults with learning difficulties, the long term unemployed, offenders and people with mental health problems.
