Mytholmroyd Station Partnership

Railway Stations in the Calder Valley have been de – staffed, neglected, suffered from vandalism and unsocial behaviour for years. No – one ‘owned’ several decrepit stations. Several community – led ‘grassroots’ station partnerships were launched a year ago to promote practical environmental enhancements especially by volunteers, for the benefit of the community, to encourage community involvement, ownership and appreciation. Each area of interest is the station, its immediate environs, plus surrounding areas. Initiative include replanting, flower tubs, ‘pick your own herbs’ , community libraries, children’s murals, art exhibitions, holiday schemes, village community noticeboards. Station Galas are being held. Mytholmroyd is high profile because Ted Hughes was born in the village.
